Log Files

  • distmgr.log - when you distribute content to a distribution point, errors and status shown here
  • DriverCatalog.log - when you import drivers, errors and status shown here

Enabling Multicast

  • Administration \ Site Configuration \ Servers and Site System Roles
  • Select the server in top half, then open the properties for “Distribution Point” in the bottom half
  • On “Multicast” tab, enable it. Here you can also enable “scheduled multicast” if you'd like to specify a minimum number of computers that must join before imaging will start
  • Software Library \ Operating Systems \ Operating System Images
  • Select the OS image, properties, Distribution Settings tab, Allow this package to be transferred via multicast

BIOS GUIDs etc

Here’s a wmic command to check the value of the smBIOS UUID: wmic path win32_computersystemproduct get uuid

You can use WQL statements in SCCM to search. Go to Monitoring / Queries, and create a query:

The following WQL Statement can be used to find all objects with a specific MAC Address registered

select SMS_R_System.ResourceId, SMS_R_System.Name from SMS_R_System where SMS_R_System.MACAddresses like ##PRM:SMS_R_System.MACAddresses##

The following WQL Statement can be used to find all objects with a specific SMBIOS GUID registered

select SMS_R_System.ResourceId, SMS_R_System.Name from SMS_R_System where SMS_R_System.SMBIOSGUID like ##PRM:SMS_R_System.SMBIOSGUID##
