Office Deployment Tool for Click To Run

This lets you download the files to a shared folder once, and install many times. If you didn't do this you'd need to install Office using the click to run for each user, which would download many times the data.

  1. Run the installer, choosing to extract to S:\Office2016
  2. Create directory: S:\Office2016\CachedInstallFiles
  3. Edit the XML:
      <Add SourcePath="S:\Office2016\CachedInstallFiles" OfficeClientEdition="32" Channel="Monthly">
        <Product ID="O365ProPlusRetail">
          <Language ID="en-us" />
          <!-- Comment out any the lines corresponding with the features you DO want -->
          <ExcludeApp ID="Word" />
          <ExcludeApp ID="Excel" />
          <ExcludeApp ID="PowerPoint" />
          <ExcludeApp ID="OneNote" />
          <ExcludeApp ID="Access" />
          <ExcludeApp ID="Groove" />
          <ExcludeApp ID="InfoPath" />
          <ExcludeApp ID="Lync" />
          <ExcludeApp ID="OneDrive" />
          <ExcludeApp ID="Publisher" />
          <ExcludeApp ID="Project" />
          <ExcludeApp ID="SharePointDesigner" />
          <ExcludeApp ID="Outlook" />
          <ExcludeApp ID="Visio" />
     <Updates Enabled="TRUE" Channel="Monthly" />
     <Display Level="None" AcceptEULA="TRUE" />
     <!-- Comment out the following line if this is NOT a remote desktop server -->
     <Property Name="SharedComputerLicensing" Value="1" />
  4. Create the following file:
    mkdir S:\Office2016\CachedInstallFiles
    setup.exe /download S:\Office2016\configuration.xml
  5. Create the following file:
    setup.exe /configure S:\Office2016\configuration.xml
  6. Run the Download.bat.

    The download won't give a progress indicator. The folder will be about 1.20GB when done. But note that the folder size seems to stick at around 250MB for quite some time, maybe it uses a cache file somewhere else?

  7. Run the Install.bat

Sometimes you'll have a hidden error during install. If you set the following in the XML, you may see it:

<Display Level="Full" AcceptEULA="TRUE" />
